Serving Torrance

Therapy & Mental Health Care in Torrance

Torrance is the largest city in the South Bay and the least like the rest of it. No beach identity, a real industrial base, a hospital corridor, and neighborhoods where families have stayed for thirty years. What people call us about here reflects that.

The generation in the middle

Torrance holds onto its residents. People buy here and stay, children grow up and settle nearby, and parents age in the same house they raised a family in. That continuity is genuinely valuable, and it produces a specific kind of strain that shows up in our consultations more here than anywhere else in the South Bay.

It is the person in their forties or fifties managing a parent's decline and a teenager's difficulties in the same week, often in the same house, while working full time. What they describe is rarely one clean problem. It is exhaustion, guilt about the exhaustion, resentment that feels unacceptable to say out loud, and a slow disappearance of any part of life that was theirs.

That is treatable, and it usually starts with individual work rather than a family meeting. Family therapy comes in when the load actually needs redistributing, and it can be structured so not everyone has to be in every session.

A city that is several cities

Torrance covers a lot of ground and a lot of lives. It has a hospital system, an industrial base, a large commuter population, and neighborhoods that have nothing to do with the beach at all. The people who call us are correspondingly varied: parents worried about a teenager, couples in long marriages who have run out of things to say, adults managing anxiety or depression that has been quietly present for years, and shift workers whose sleep and mood have not been right in a long time.

What we offer, and what we will tell you honestly

The full practice is available to Torrance clients: individual, couples, family, and teen therapy, psychiatry, EMDR and trauma care, testing, and addiction treatment, in person at our Hermosa Beach office or virtually across California.

One straight thing about cost. We are private-pay, and Torrance has more insurance-based options than the beach cities do. If insurance is what makes care possible for your family, we would rather say that on a 15-minute call than have you discover it after an intake.

Getting started

Start with a free 15-minute consultation. If you are calling on behalf of someone in your family who has not agreed to anything yet, that is a normal place to begin and worth saying out loud when we talk.

Questions

Frequently asked

My parents would never agree to therapy. Is it still worth me going?

Yes, and this is one of the most common calls we take. You do not need family agreement to get your own support, and individual work often changes the family dynamic more than trying to convince everyone to come in together. If your family later wants to join, that door stays open.

How far is your office from Torrance?

We are at 2200 Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach. From most of Torrance that is fifteen to twenty minutes depending on where you are and the time of day, and virtual sessions are available across California if the drive does not work.

I am caring for a parent and raising kids at the same time. Where does that even go?

That is its own category and it is common in Torrance, where households are often multigenerational and people stay put for decades. It usually shows up as exhaustion, guilt, and resentment that feels unacceptable to admit. Individual therapy is the usual starting point, and family sessions can follow if the load needs redistributing.

Do you see whole families together?

We do. Family therapy is often the right format when the difficulty is between people rather than inside one person, and it can be structured so that not everyone has to be in every session. Some families start with one member and expand from there.

Is what I say confidential from my family?

Yes, within the limits the law requires. For adults, nothing you discuss is shared with your family without your written authorization. For minors, we set expectations with everyone up front about what parents are told and what stays in the room, because a teenager who does not believe the room is private will not use it.

Do you take insurance?

We are a private-pay practice and provide superbills for out-of-network PPO reimbursement. Torrance has more insurance-based options than the beach cities do, and if cost is the deciding factor we would rather say that honestly on the consultation than have you find out later.
