Serving Palos Verdes
Therapy & Mental Health Care in Palos Verdes
The Peninsula's geography is most of what makes it what it is, and it is also the reason a lot of people up here never start therapy. Getting off the hill and back is a real commitment on a Tuesday evening. So for Palos Verdes we design around that rather than pretending it does not exist.
- Licensed clinicians
- In person and virtual
- Free 15-minute consultation
- Accepting new clients
The drive is the actual obstacle
Our office is about 11 miles from Rancho Palos Verdes, which sounds like nothing and is roughly 20 minutes each way in good conditions. That is not a hard trip once. It is a different question as a standing weekly appointment for a year, alongside work and school runs and the fact that Palos Verdes Drive is a 27-mile loop and nothing on the Peninsula is quite as close to anything as the map suggests.
Plenty of people decide, reasonably, that they will start therapy once life is less busy. Life does not become less busy. The point is worth naming because the logistics are usually the real reason, not ambivalence about the work.
Telehealth as the default, not the consolation prize
For most Peninsula clients, virtual sessions are the sensible primary format. Not a lesser version of care, and not what we offer when the schedule is full. For the large majority of outpatient therapy, the research shows outcomes comparable to being in the room, and it is the same clinicians holding the same standard either way.
What it buys you is the thing that actually determines whether therapy works, which is consistency. A 50-minute session that costs you 50 minutes is one you keep. A 50-minute session that costs you two hours is one you start rescheduling in month three.
When we would ask you to make the drive
We will be straightforward about the exceptions, because pretending they do not exist would be the easier sell and the worse care:
- EMDR and intensive trauma work, where your clinician is tracking your body as closely as your words
- Couples therapy, where what happens in the space between two people carries half the information
- Clients who dissociate, freeze, or go flat under stress, which is far harder to catch on a screen
- A first session, when it can be done, simply because it makes everything after it easier
Discretion, which is not the same as secrecy
The Peninsula communities are small, established, and interconnected in a way that people who grew up here understand immediately. Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates function socially as one place, and PVPUSD stitches the families together further. That is a genuine strength of living here and it is also why privacy comes up in almost every first conversation we have with someone from the hill.
Being physically off the Peninsula is part of the answer. So is virtual care, which removes the question of who might see your car. We are a boutique practice, not a clinic with a full waiting room, and that is deliberate.
The full practice, either format
Individual, couples, family, and teen therapy, psychiatry and medication management, testing, and addiction care are all available to Peninsula clients, coordinated by one team so nothing restarts when your needs change.
Getting started
Start with a free 15-minute consultation, which you can do by phone from wherever you are. Part of that conversation is deciding honestly which format fits your life, because the plan that survives contact with your actual calendar is the one that works.

Questions
Frequently asked
How far is your office from the Peninsula?
We are at 2200 Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach, roughly 11 miles from Rancho Palos Verdes and about 18 to 20 minutes without traffic. The honest version is that traffic and the climb back up make the return trip the longer one, which is worth planning around rather than discovering.
Is telehealth as effective as coming in?
For most outpatient therapy the research shows comparable outcomes, and we treat it as an equal option rather than a fallback. The exceptions are specific: trauma processing where a clinician is reading your body, couples work, and clients who go numb or shut down under stress. We will tell you if your situation is one of them.
Can I do a mix of both?
That is what most Peninsula clients end up doing. A common pattern is coming in for the first session and at intervals after that, with the ongoing weekly work done by video. Same clinician throughout, so switching format does not mean re-explaining your history.
How private is a video session, really?
The platform is HIPAA compliant and sessions are not recorded. The variable is your end of it, which is why we talk early about where in your house you will actually take the call. For some clients that turns out to be a parked car, and that is a perfectly good answer.
Do you work with Peninsula teenagers?
Yes. PVPUSD families deal with a specific version of academic pressure, and being off the hill has an advantage there, since the practice is not part of the same social world. Telehealth removes the visibility question for teens who care about it.
Do you take insurance?
We are private-pay and provide superbills for out-of-network PPO reimbursement. One practical note for Peninsula clients: private-pay means we schedule around your availability rather than around what a panel authorizes, which matters more when logistics are already the hard part.
